Focus on the Family: A marriage of religion and politics
James Dobson is a deeply partisan pillar of the evangelical Christian right. Through his TAX EXEMPT organization, Focus on the Family, he regularly involves himself in political matters, urging his followers to support conservative (read: Republican) candidates. The organization is nothing if not political.
Are there rules against political activities of tax-exempt organizations? Does the IRS have an obligation to investigate such activities and potentially revoke tax exempt status? Does Focus on the Family stand in violation of such rules and deserve investigation?
I will offer no advice or judgment here. I will leave it to my readers to puzzle it out. The answers are easy enough to track down and are worth considering.
